The Plauge

So Tyson was sick for a long time.  Fever (102.3 and 103.2), cough, stuffy nose, crankiness, and more.  It lasted so long.  We did everything we could think of.  Nothing seemed to help. He must have got some sweet virus.  What makes matters even better is that both Jamie and I were sick as well.  It sure is harder to take care of a child when your sick too.  So eventually there is a positive ending.  We all get better.  We were super grateful!
The Lord in his mercy took pity on us.

So about two weeks after this event Tyson started getting some dry spots of skin.  I thought they were just eczema.  So we continuously put lotion on him.  Thinking that this was just a flare up from the recent heat wave we've been having.  Gradually the rash began to spread and get worse until 4 days later we woke up to find him looking like this.

Sorry that this is blurry but its the best we could do with a wiggly little human.

So, of course we called the doctor and were able to get him seen in a few hours.  The rash was only on his arms and torso so luckily it wasn't noticeable until you were changing him.  It made me sick to look at it.  The only consulation is that Tyson doesn't seem bothered by it at all.  In fact he's as happy as a clam.
At the doctors office they were very intriged about it, in fact by the end of the visit she confessed that she didn't even know what it was.  It had big red welts with scaly dry white insides, and it was spreading and getting worse.   So we made an appointment and went down to the Tufts Medical Center Dermatology Clinic.  They weren't open but had a doctor come in to look at it anyways.
The conclusion.....it wasn't hives, it wasn't ring worm (the tested it), and in short they didn't know what it was either.  They said that someimes babys will get weird rashes after they have been sick or they also said that sometimes babys just get really weird rashes for no reason.  They said there wasn't anything that we could do.  Just wait for it to get better. Unless over the weekend he got a fever, sores in his mouth, or if any of the sores turned in blisters then we had to take him to the emergency room.  Nice that they were so helpful.

So after that we started putting vasline on Tyson and the rash started to clear up.  We had a follow up appointment yesterday and everything is looking good despite being gross still (everything got really dry and started flaking off like a bad sunburn except that it happened so fast that his skin cracked around the outsides of the blotches, so he's got super flaky skin with the weird red circles all over his torso and arms).

Poor little guy.  But just to prove to you that he is okay (besides refusing to nap during the day) and having fun.  He's a sweet video I recently took.
